IRIS CERAMICA GROUP FIGHTS COVID-19 WITH THE TECHNOLOGICAL INNOVATION OF ACTIVE SURFACES

ACTIVE SURFACES, the high-performing and authentically beautiful ceramic surface by Iris Ceramica Group, have been the subject of a major study by the Department of Biomedical, Surgical and Dental Sciences and the Department of Biomedical Sciences for Health of the University of Milan to verify their antiviral properties against the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus (responsible for COVID-19).

Active Surfaces have achieved a ground-breaking milestone in the fight against SARS-CoV-2 (Covid-19). According to data, Active Surfaces are able to eliminate 94% of SARS-CoV-2 after only 4 hours of exposure to low intensity UV light (natural light and traditional light bulbs).

ELIMINATE OVER 99% OF VIRUSES AND BACTERIA

Thanks to the oxidation process induced by photocatalysis, ACTIVE Surfaces are certified to eliminate 99.99% of bacteria. Active can also eliminate particularly contagious viruses: tests have been performed on the H1N1 and H3N2 Pandemic Influenzas, Enterovirus 71 and the Poliovirus. Active Surfaces are ISO-certified (Antiviral activity ISO 21702 – ISO 18061) and (Antibacterial activity ISO 27447 – ISO 22196).

The titanium dioxide combined with silver boosts the antibacterial and antiviral performances of ACTIVE SURFACES, making them effective under natural light, LED lights, in low light conditions and even in the dark. The anti-mould and anti-fungal properties of ACTIVE products are also certified.

AGAINST NITROGEN OXIDES AND VOLATILE ORGANIC COMPOUNDS

Thanks to the photocatalysis process, in the presence of natural or artificial light and humidity, the polluting substances are transformed into salts, harmless to the human body.

Active is able to degrade the main polluting molecules (NOx, etc ...) in a more effective and powerful way thanks to the use of digital technology that allows a more homogeneous distribution of titanium dioxide on the surface of ceramic tiles. Furthermore, the presence of silver on TiO2 (patented product) allows Active to be efficient even with LED lighting.

 
ANTI-ODOUR EFFECTIVENESS

Odour is caused by molecules with a particular composition that, when present, are perceived by the nose and recognized. However, odour is a very difficult parameter to measure, as it reflects the property of a certain substance that stimulates the human olfactory system. The smell could be either pleasant or unpleasant, strong or barely perceptible, however an environment devoid of odours is always preferable both in private and public spaces.

Active is able to degrade the main molecules responsible for the odour in a more effective and powerful way. Active is characterized by a more homogeneous distribution of titanium dioxide on the surface of the ceramic tiles and the presence of silver, appropriately added to the micrometric TiO2 always used in Active.

 

SELF-CLEANING EFFECTIVENESS

DIRT IS EASIER TO REMOVE FROM SURFACES WITHOUT USING AGGRESSIVE DETERGENTS.

Over time, dust and pollution, as well as cigarette smoke, personal cleaning products and environments stain and ruin surfaces and materials.

Active is a photocatalytic ceramic, and this property means that dirt adheres less to the surface making it easier to clean. This self-cleaning property means that surfaces can be cleaned simply with water and mild detergents, avoiding more aggressive ones that are generally toxic and more expensive.

Outdoors, the self-cleaning property helps to maintain the texture and appearance of ceramic surfacesunchanged, and even just rain is able to wash and clean the surfaces, eliminating the high costs of maintenance and repairs for traditional outdoor materials.
